Workshop on
Locally adaptive filters in signal and image processing
November 24-26, 2008

SUMMARY
The workshop, which is the third in a series of annual workshops at EURANDOM devoted to signal and image analysis, will be devoted to locally adaptive methods. Many problems in image analysis require a large amount of heterogeneous data to be processed, for example to denoise, to detect edges, to classify, to segment, to interpret, to estimate parameters, to detect features of interest, to monitor or to predict. To carry out such tasks, fast and efficient procedures are required which can adapt to the local (in space or time) state of the system. Examples of such procedures are regularization methods, wavelets, Bayesian procedures, diffusion techniques, spectral analysis or filtering. The workshop will cover both theoretical, practical and algorithmic aspects of the procedures. Applications include inverse problems, forecasting, pattern, recognition, medical imaging and monitoring of complex systems. We plan to invite internationally renowned experts to give review talks aimed to be of interest to young researchers at the beginning of their career, as well as state of the art talks on recent research and progress. The conference will also be a meeting point for people working with different paradigms but on similar problems.
Accepted contributions are eligible for publication in an edited book by Springer Verlag.
