Workshop: “Francesca Romana Nardi: A life in probability, building communities across Europe”
Jul 18, 2022 - Jul 22, 2022
Summary
Francesca passed away on October 21, 2021, in the midst of a vibrant life. Colleagues from all over Italy and Europe will gather in Florence to talk about mathematical topics that were very close to her heart.
Francesca made ground-breaking contributions to the area of interacting particle systems, in particular, to the theory and application of phase transitions, critical behaviour and metastability. She had a wonderful drive and enthusiasm, with which she inspired the people around her, junior and senior alike. She reached out to all of us, always with a smile.
Francesca initiated a national probability seminar in Italy, which became an instant success and continues to bring together probabilists, analysts and physicists throughout Italy, and to draw speakers from all over the world.
We want to celebrate her life, her scientific contributions, and the warmth that she brought and left behind. The meeting is open to everyone interested.

Contributions for streamed memorial session
On Thursday, July 21, there will be a streamed memorial session in the afternoon (the only online activity of the workshop!).
The idea of this session is to give the floor to both participants, and colleagues that cannot join us physically in Florence for this event, who want to share a few personal words, memories or anecdotes about Francesca.
Should you wish give this short of contribution during this memorial session, please contact us at “nardi.event@gmail.com”, we will be happy to schedule your intervention (for which you should consider up to 5 minutes) .
Please feel free to share info about this session with anyone who might be interested in contributing.
